Hebrew Academy’s first ever Literacy Night took place on Tuesday evening. Students from Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 arrived at school wearing their pyjamas and excited to be at school at night! The students participated in literacy activities in their classrooms with their teachers and assistants – many of whom got into the spirit of the night by donning bathrobes! The children listened to stories, created bookmarks, reading glasses, book bags and other crafts related to reading.

Simultaneously, parents learned strategies that may be used at home to develop good reading habits, from our in-house expert panel, comprising Early Intervention and Resource Liaison Leona Lands, English and Technology Integration Coordinator Elyse Haber, Special Education Coordinator Beth Moscovic and Reading Remediation Specialist Hilary Greenstone. Parents then joined their children to finish their art activities, enjoy milk and cookies and watch a video that each class created about reading. It was a wonderful night for all!
