In recognition of their outstanding leadership and contributions to the field of Jewish Education, two Hebrew Academy faculty members have been honoured with prestigious awards.

Elementary School Director of Judaic Studies Jordana Levy is the recipient of the Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Jewish Education, which celebrates successful innovation in Jewish education throughout North America. A Hebrew Academy alumna and parent, Jordana has worked in the Jewish day school system since 2000 and currently teaches Grade 2 Hebrew at Hebrew Academy alongside her administrative post. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from McGill University’s Jewish Teacher Training Program (JTTP) and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from McGill.

“We are proud and privileged to have Jordana as an inspirational role model in our midst,” said Hebrew Academy Elementary School Principal Yaffa Blanshay. “Students and fellow staff members benefit from her energy, her love of Limudei Kodesh, her enthusiasm and her care and concern for her students.”

High School Dean of Jewish Life and Judaic Studies Department Head Rabbi Eddie Shostak is the recipient of Federation CJA’s Brenda and Samuel Gewurz Award for Jewish Educational Leadership which recognizes outstanding educational professionals in the field of Jewish Education. Rabbi Shostak’s communal involvement over the past 20 years spans the spectrum of the Montreal Jewish community. A Hebrew Academy parent, Rabbi Shostak is the incoming School Rabbi and will continue to serve as a Hebrew Academy teacher and administrator. Rabbi Shostak holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from McGill. He is a graduate of New York’s Day School Leadership Training Institute (DSLTI) and holds a certificate from Harvard’s Principals’ Center Summer Institute.

“Rabbi Shostak has dedicated much of his career to inspiring our students both within and outside the classroom,” said High School Principal and incoming Head of School Dr. Laura Segall.  “Using innovative educational approaches and experiential learning, he has worked tirelessly to improve our Limudei Kodesh program and to develop leadership skills among our young adults.  I am thrilled that his efforts are being recognized and know that this award will drive him to strive even higher.”
