High School and senior Elementary students were honoured with a special visit from Israel’s Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi David Lau this morning in celebration of Lag Ba’Omer. Students greeted Rabbi Lau at the door with flags and escorted him in song to the Ashkenaz Beit Midrash, where he davened in our morning minyan. Rabbi Lau met with Bnei Akiva madrichim over breakfast, then addressed all students and staff on the centrality of the Torah in Judaism. “Israel is the center of the Torah,” he said, “and this Beit Midrash is an embassy of Torah and you are its ambassadors.”

Rabbi Lau’s remarks were preceded by an introduction from Head of School Dr. Kalman Stein and followed by a gift presentation by High School Student Council President Isaac Safran. Thank you to Mizrachi Canada and its head, HA alumnus Elan Mazer, and High School Dean of Jewish Life and Director of Judaic Studies Rabbi Eddie Shostak for enabling this rare and most memorable visit.
