To end our “Space Week” both Grade 3 classes participated in a virtual classroom visit with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield on Friday. Two hundred schools across Canada had the opportunity to learn with Commander Hadfield and ask him questions. The students learned about the work involved in becoming an astronaut and about life on the International Space Station. Commander Hadfield discussed the difficulties and fun about living with zero gravity, and about the physical adjustments when returning from space. We were surprised to learn that Chris Hadfield was the first person to do a space walk on the space station and it is his image on the back of the 5 dollar bill!
It was an amazing experience and one the students won’t forget for a long time!
