Grades 6 to 8 participated in a fascinating workshop this week by Ptil Tekhelet, a non-profit organization based in Kfar Adumim that produces techelet for tzizit and educates adults and children about the process. Co-founder Joel Guberman touched upon the Talmudic and physical sources of techelet, demonstrated the dyeing process and showed students an engaging video before they split into three groups where they explored the sources in depth with their teachers, discussed the melachot involved in producing techlelet, and went on a virtual reality tour in search of the chilazon, or snail, referred to in the Gemara. Thank you to School Rabbi Rabbi Eddie Shostak for organizing this engaging lesson and to Librarian Zehava Cohn for enabling students’ deep-sea diving adventure by supplying VR goggles!
