HAppening now: Grades 10 and 11 are participating in a special Bronfman Jewish Education Centre program in honour of Tu B’Shvat featuring former Montrealer MK Michal Cotler-Wunsh.

Michal just inspired our Grades 5 and 6 classes who joined other Montreal Jewish day schools on Zoom. After briefly sharing her bio, Michal elaborated on her role as MK for the Blue and White party and discussed the privilege of serving Israeli citizens:

“It is a real honour and a real opportunity to be an MK,” she said. “Israel is only 72 years old. We’re the founding mothers and fathers. We are still the generation of building and creating and improving and changing. That means we have a great responsibility and privilege to build the one single democratic state in the Middle East… today’s Israel is a vibrant democracy. It’s our home no matter where we live. We are truly living in an historic time,” said Michal, touching upon the Abraham Accords.

Michal also noted that the first day that Knesset convened in 1949 was Tu B’Shvat.

Earlier this week School Rabbi Rabbi Eddie Shostak presented a detailed introduction to Grades 5 and 6 in preparation for this exciting day.
