Elementary School

A time of tremendous growth, discovery and development. At Hebrew Academy, students build strong academic foundations, confidence, independence, meaningful relationships, and a lifelong love of learning.

Academics

Students benefit from a rich and engaging curriculum that develops strong communication skills, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving across a variety of disciplines aligned with Quebec Ministry standards.

We prioritize learning situations in which students are required to engage a wide range of cognitive processes and to demonstrate attitudes such as open-mindedness, intellectual curiosity, perseverance, critical thinking, and rigor. To support students throughout this process, we emphasize differentiated instruction, ensuring that learning experiences are responsive to their diverse needs and strengths. From guided reading and math stations to collaborative projects and digital tools, our classrooms are alive with engagement and exploration.

Daily instruction in multiple languages helps students develop strong literacy, communication, and language skills while fostering confidence and fluency across multiple languages.

Through the SEL program, we are equipping students not only to succeed academically, but to thrive as thoughtful, caring members of the community.

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in Action

At Hebrew Academy, we believe that academic growth must go hand in hand with emotional well-being and character development.

Our SEL program is woven into every aspect of school life. Each month, students explore a core value such as respect, kindness, or perseverance through engaging lessons in all three languages, school-wide assemblies, and interactive classroom activities.

Monthly Assemblies to introduce the value in an inclusive and dynamic way

Student of the Month recognition, with certificates, prizes, and a feature on our “Wall of Fame”

Interactive Bulletin Boards with definitions, real-life examples, and actionable ways to live each value

A school culture that encourages students to “Be Strong. Be Kind. Be Well.”

Innovation & Hands-On Learning

Learning comes to life through our Fab Lab, where students have opportunities to imagine, design, create, and build through project-based learning experiences. By engaging in STEAM-focused challenges and collaborative projects, students develop creativity, adaptability and problem-solving skills while bringing their ideas to life. The Fab Lab encourages innovation across disciplines and helps prepare students for an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.

Beyond the Classroom

At Hebrew Academy, learning doesn’t stop when students step outside the classroom. Our rich co-curricular offerings provide students with meaningful opportunities to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and connect with their peers in new and exciting ways.

Cycliste Averti

As part of the Physical Education course, grade 5 students take part in Vélo Québec's program CYCLISTE AVERTI . With this program, students enjoy acquiring all the skills needed to ride a bike safely. Students receive theoretical instruction, practice in a closed environment and a group road outing. A highlight of the Elementary experience, Cycle Averti encourages students to step outside their comfort zones, build resilience, and develop confidence through outdoor adventure and experiential learning.

Athletics Program

Teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit are on full display in our athletics program. Students participate in basketball and soccer leagues in a positive and energetic setting. Our teams are coached with a focus on skill-building, discipline, and respect, both on and off the court.

Buddy Programs

One of the most cherished initiatives in our school is our Buddy Program, where older students are paired with younger peers to create meaningful connections across grade levels. These partnerships foster responsibility, empathy, and school unity, as students mentor, read together, do activities, and share special moments throughout the year.

Genealogy Project

Through this powerful and personal project, Grade 6 students explore their family story and gain a deeper understanding of their roots and identity. "My family story" integrates several school subjects taught in French: history, geography, visual arts, as well as French language. Students present a “creative production” during the school’s internal exhibition for all parents. It is a highlight of the year that promotes self-reflection, storytelling, and appreciation for their family story.

Math and Computing Competitions

Students eager for academic challenge can participate in enrichment opportunities like Mathletes and the University of Waterloo Computing Competition. These contests sharpen problem-solving, logic, and analytical thinking, and give students a chance to shine on a broader stage.

Spelling Bee

Students build confidence, vocabulary, and public speaking skills through our annual Spelling Bee. This beloved tradition encourages academic excellence while giving students the opportunity to challenge themselves, celebrate achievement, and showcase their hard work.

Beyond academics, our team also supports students in building self-regulation, executive functioning, and organizational skills, tools essential for lifelong learning and independence.

At Hebrew Academy, we don’t wait for a child to fall behind. Early intervention is key to helping students thrive. We actively assess and address learning needs as soon as they arise, celebrate progress, and work collaboratively across disciplines to provide tailored support, unlocking the full potential of every learner.

From academic enrichment to emotional growth, Hebrew Academy offers students the chance to thrive in every corner of school life.

Support for Every Learner

At Hebrew Academy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. Ongoing assessments and progress monitoring is offered to ensure each child receives the right level of support or enrichment at the right time. We present opportunities for students who can benefit from an enriched curriculum.

Our Elementary Resource Program is a cornerstone of that commitment, providing tailored academic support to meet the individual needs of each student.

Our experienced resource team works in close partnership with classroom teachers, school counselors, and parents to ensure that students receive timely and targeted interventions that help them succeed both academically and emotionally.

Key components of our support program include:

Individual or Small group instruction in literacy and numeracy, designed to strengthen foundational skills.

Curricular support in English, French, and Judaic Studies, offering flexible support based on each student’s goals and progress.
