Early intervention is support given to students in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 in order to ensure that students’ basic skills (ie. reading, writing, language, and communication) are developing appropriately. Beginning in Kindergarten, Director of Academic Support Services Beth Moskovic visits both Kindergarten classrooms to observe how students are learning. Our English and French Early Interventionists work with students both individually and in small groups on a weekly-basis to hone their pre-reading, math and writing skills.
All students’ reading skills are screened three times a year with a universal screening tool as part of the Response to Intervention model that Hebrew Academy follows. In February, Educational Consultant Barbara Bobrow screens Kindergarten students to look more closely at important basic skills. The professionals identify students who need additional support and offer recommendations to both parents and teachers.
